Lawrence Arya
Lawrence Arya writes at the intersection of language, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence, convinced that the most valuable thing you can build is not another app but the knowledge graph in your own head. Building Your First Brain is his field guide to wiring that graph before the machines wire theirs.
The book
Build First Brain is a field guide to the converging worlds of artificial intelligence, neural interfaces, and the human mind. It argues that language is a technology, the oldest one we have, and that two new technologies, large language models and brain-computer interfaces, are beginning to rewrite it at the same time. It is written for curious general readers, with no technical background assumed, and the complete edition is free for the first 1,000 readers.
What I write about
- How AI is changing the way humans produce and use language.
- Brain-computer interfaces and the move from the screen to the synapse.
- Whether language models understand anything, and what that question reveals about language.
- The long history of communication, from speech to symbol to code, and where it leads next.
You can read the essays in the Journal, or start with how AI is changing human language.
